Demo Reel (Rough cut)

POC from Tuscanny Polk on Vimeo.

Here is a rough cut of what my final demo reel will look like! Im so exited to finally be working on this. Alot of hard work, blood, sweat and tears are going into this reel so I apologize to my friends and family that I havent been around lately; my time has been completely consumed.

Because this is just a "rough cut" of my real, visuals and background music are more than likely going to be changed significantly.

I will be submitting updates as the individual assets are completed.Im still in the process of deciding if im going to be submitting pre pro(storyboards, sketches etc.), if anyone wants to see the sketches and such please let me know and ill throw em up.

More on the way so stay tuned.

New Stuff.

As promised Ive got some new art for you all to see. These two pics were colored straight outta my sketchbook using my handy iphone camera and Photoshop CS2. Man, I miss drawing all day long.Im gonna start coloring some older pics ive done in my sketchbook and throw them up on the blog so be on the look out for those surfacing soon.

Im also going to start doing something a bit new. Im going to be doing a sketch a day in my sketchbook. Im going to be working on an artbook and want more up to date material so im going to be going in on the sketches starting tonight.

Im pretty exited. And for those of you who dont know, a "artbook" or "art bible" is a portfolio style collection of an artists work compiled together in a purchasable soft or hardcover publication for art lovers to buy and collect. Theres a handful of good sites out there that let you submit your images and organize your own books, but for my first artbook, i think ill be using lulu.com. Seeing as it takes along time to generate lots of material, I suppose Ill be wrapping my final for the book around next year some time.So if you all are interested in picking up a copy, its gonna be a while before its available....

Because most of my "one sketch a day" drawings will be going in my artbook, im not going to be submitting the sketches to any sites. There will still be new illustrations but just know the "bulk" of my work is going to be kept under wraps until my book is finalized.

Thanks for everyone out there whose been keeping up with me and supporting me and my art. More Illness is always coming your way.

See ya next time.

This is a re-up of my previous "b-boy" sketch that I did a couple pages ago...This pic is actually pretty old, im just a bit late submitting it to my blog. Its been a minute since I was able to throw a illustration  up on here. Ive been animating constantly for my school art test and side projects. Maaan, when I picked up my sketchbook a few days ago it felt like breathing again for the first time... Dont get me wrong, i love my animation, but its good to go back to my roots sometimes ya know?

I hope you all enjoy the Re-Up.

an oldie.

An oder animation that I did using the "Lowman" rig character. Its pretty snappy and im sure ide be able to fix that now... I might pick this one back up and fix it if I ever get the time... or I might just start anew and work on another walk. Either way I think my next few animations will defiantly be with the Lowman character. I had alot of fun animating Lowman... I dont know what it is, but I think his elongated look attracts me to his character. I dig it.

hope you all enjoy.

Bugsy jump: take 2

i got some critiques and offset the arms and legs a bit in this updated animation. when Bugsy jumps his feet land onto the platform at different times, which gives his landing a more natural look. i also gave him more hang-time at the climax of his arc and made his landing a bit faster.

thanks to all those who gave me great critiques on this project.
more critiques are always welcome.

THIS WAS A CRAZY WEEKEND - gotta get back to work.

hope you all enjoy.

exploratory sketches: animation pre pro.

these are sketches and storyboards that i did for a animation that im working on. for those who are interested in getting into ANY type of animation i highly recommend doing some type of pre production sketches and storyboards like these. never too complicated. keep it simple, this is just getting your ideas down on paper. this step is VERY important. most animators, 2D or CG will tell you that they spend about 50% of their time working on these loose, exploratory sketches(if they have the luxury of time). hope you all enjoy.

Bugsy jump test

There comes a time at full sail as an animation student, when you are required to animate a scene with a certain character. animating this scene is a test that every student aspiring to be an animator must do before he or she is "approved" and allowed to pursue a career as a animator.in short, full sail dictates there students will specialize in and what will essentially be in that students demo reel upon graduation. many student have mixed feelings towards the school saying what they "can and cannot do on their OWN reels" . in tern, many students switch degrees because they dont want to have to "deal" with an art test- and thats fine. BUT my attitude towards this "test" it that, if i haven't practiced and sharpened my OWN skills to the point where my work docent reflect this; what is the point in having a desire to be an animator? eehh, just talking out the side of my neck here...

food for thought.

here is my first portion of my Art Test. its a jumping animation. these types of animations are basic in "premise" but fare from simple - every animator knows that. in a scene wuch as this one the animator needs to focus on timing, sense of weight, the arc of the jump, the speed and force in wich the character is jumping, the way the characters arms and legs swing, the overlapping actions of the characters garments, hair, tentacles, or in this case- antenna's; all wile paying attention to the 12 principles of animation. ive tried my best to do all of these things- and here is my result. there are still any flaws, it is not perfect. but that is what makes me a stronger animator, it is the same thing that sets me apart from other students and industry professionals, it is my undying pursuit of perfection. and in that pursuit, i am well aware of my current limitations and artistic blockades. i know the solution to those limitations and blockades; but the solutions are not easy to reach, but over time, i will have them- and in tern, new limitations and blockades will be revealed. and i will be ready to pursue them with even more enthusiasm than before, using calculated, and artistic guerrilla tactics.

dont get me wrong- im not TRYING to be perfect. please try not to misunderstand me; because that is not my goal.

i just enjoy pursuing perfection.

one day you all will enjoy me, enjoying that pursuit.
