Bugsy jump: take 2

i got some critiques and offset the arms and legs a bit in this updated animation. when Bugsy jumps his feet land onto the platform at different times, which gives his landing a more natural look. i also gave him more hang-time at the climax of his arc and made his landing a bit faster.

thanks to all those who gave me great critiques on this project.
more critiques are always welcome.

THIS WAS A CRAZY WEEKEND - gotta get back to work.

hope you all enjoy.

  1. Hey there! You might know me as HarshMarsh over at 11sec. I like the jump! I think what it needs is a harder landing, the feet slow into the landing, try having a frame before where the feet are still at the angle and snap down the next frame, it will add an impact to the land!

    Keep it up!

  2. Thanks Marshal! Compleatly forgot about snapping the feel like that! Great idea, thanks for bringing that up. Classes are heptic now so it might be a bit before ill have time to post a new update but if i do i will try to post it up on 11 sec club. Thanks alot.

Animauro; i got this rig from my school. We use it for projects in a character animation class. Some graduated students made it a while back. Im not too crazy about the rig he has on him tho.

    Thanks for checking in guys.

  3. Hi Tuscany,
I took a minute out of work to check out your jump. It's pretty good. It has character and a nice animation style. A few things I noticed for polishing purposes are:
    1) my eye seems to be drawn to the back feet at the start of the jump. They appear to have a large movement early followed by a hold. Check your arcs and make sure they're smooth.
    2) the character lands on bent legs. It helps give the illusion of weight if he extends his legs just before impact to cushion the landing.
    3) I realize this may be a style choice, but when a character takes his eyes off of his intended target, it makes the jump seem haphazard, as if it doesn't matter where he lands.

Try it out. There are no rules to good animation, as long as it looks great.

    Have fun
